Cheapest Dog Food in Ireland 2026 — A Live Price Comparison
Last updated: 1 May 2026 · Stores compared: Tesco · SuperValu · Dunnes Stores · Method: MasterMarket live scrape, weekly refresh
If you've stood in the pet aisle in Tesco and wondered whether the same bag of Pedigree is cheaper at Dunnes, you're not alone. Dog food is one of the most price-watched grocery categories in Ireland — a 12kg bag of dry food can cost the same as a weekly meat budget, and the price gaps between stores are often invisible at the shelf because of Clubcard, Real Rewards, and multi-buy fine print.
We pulled live prices from Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores in the last 14 days for every dog-food SKU we track, then matched them by exact product. Here's what the data actually says — including where the headline-cheapest store changes once you strip out the loyalty-card prices.
A note on coverage: This guide currently covers Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores. Aldi (Langhams, Vitakraft) and Lidl (Coshida) own-brand dog food is not yet tracked in our weekly scrape. We'll update this page as soon as that coverage lands — and given those ranges are routinely the cheapest unit-price in Ireland, we'd expect the picture to shift.
Quick answer: where is dog food cheapest right now?
Across the eight matched-SKU products in our dataset, the picture is more uniform than most shoppers expect:
- Branded dry food (Pedigree, Bakers 3kg) — prices are identical at €11.50–€13.50 across Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes. There's no hidden bargain here; pick the store closest to you.
- Cesar wet food trays (150g) — Dunnes is materially cheaper at €1.20 vs €1.55–€1.56 elsewhere (a 23% gap on multi-buy).
- Pedigree Puppy wet pouches (12×100g) — Tesco Clubcard at €7.00 beats Dunnes at €9.20 (24% lower if you have a Clubcard — without one, Tesco is €9.20 too).
- Naturo (grain-free, senior, tinned) — within €0.10 across stores; effectively identical.
The "cheapest" store depends entirely on whether you'll use a loyalty card. If you won't, Dunnes Stores is the most consistent on multi-buy wet food. If you will, Tesco's Clubcard prices open a clear gap on Pedigree puppy and Cesar.
The data — head-to-head price table
| Product | Brand | Tesco | SuperValu | Dunnes Stores | Best price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pedigree Dry Adult Beef & Veg 3kg | Pedigree | €13.50 (Clubcard) | €13.50 (Real Rewards) | €13.50 | All three |
| Bakers Beef with Veg Dry 3kg | Bakers | €11.50 (Clubcard) | €11.50 (Real Rewards) | €11.50 | All three |
| Bakers Chicken with Veg Dry 3kg | Bakers | €11.50 (Clubcard) | €11.50 (Real Rewards) | €11.50 | All three |

What "Clubcard" and "Real Rewards" actually mean for your bill
Two of our three tracked stores show two different prices on the same shelf:
- Tesco Clubcard Price — only applies if you scan a Tesco Clubcard at checkout. Without it, you pay the regular price (often €1–€3 higher on dry food).
- SuperValu Real Rewards Price — same model. Free to join, but you have to scan the card.
- Dunnes Stores — prices in this guide are the headline price on the shelf. No card required.
So when you compare €13.50 across the three stores on Pedigree dry, Tesco and SuperValu are only €13.50 if you scan a card. Dunnes is €13.50 to everyone. For a household that doesn't carry the cards, Dunnes is effectively the cheapest of the three on most matched dry-food SKUs.
Wet food vs dry food — which is cheaper per gram?
| Format | Example | Price | €/100g |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dry (3kg bag) | Bakers Beef with Veg 3kg | €11.50 | €0.38 |
| Dry (3kg bag) | Pedigree Adult Beef & Veg 3kg | €13.50 | €0.45 |
| Wet pouch (12-pack) | Pedigree Puppy Pouches 12×100g | €7.00 (Tesco Clubcard) | €0.58 |
| Wet pouch (12-pack) | Pedigree Puppy Pouches 12×100g | €9.20 (Dunnes shelf) | €0.77 |
| Wet tray | Cesar Classic Terrine 150g | €1.20 (Dunnes 2-for) | €0.80 |
| Wet tray | Cesar Classic Terrine 150g | €1.55 (Tesco) | €1.03 |
Dry food is roughly half the price per gram of wet food, even before you compare brands. If you mix-feed (dry as the base, wet as a topper or training reward), you're already optimising the bill — what matters is which store you buy each format from.
Three concrete ways to cut your dog-food bill
- Scan the loyalty card if you shop Tesco or SuperValu. Pedigree puppy pouches drop from €9.20 to €7.00 with a Tesco Clubcard — that's a €2.20 saving on a single 12-pack, repeated weekly.
- Buy wet food at Dunnes, dry food anywhere. Cesar wet trays are 23% cheaper at Dunnes than the same SKU at Tesco/SuperValu. Dry-food prices are genuinely identical at €11.50/€13.50, so go where it's most convenient.
- Track the multi-buy windows. Cesar's 2-for promotion in our data was running across all three stores simultaneously. When the promo ends, the price typically rises 15–25% — a price-history check on MasterMarket shows the pattern.
How we built this comparison
- Live price data from Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores, refreshed weekly via our scraper pipeline.
- Only
auto_approvedrows captured in the last 14 days — no fabricated or stale prices. - Same-SKU matching (exact product, exact pack size). We exclude any SKU where the size/format doesn't match across stores.
- Loyalty-card prices flagged explicitly so you know what's required to hit each price.
FAQ
Is Tesco cheaper than Dunnes for dog food in Ireland? For most matched dry-food SKUs (Pedigree, Bakers 3kg), prices are identical at €13.50 / €11.50. Tesco is cheaper than Dunnes on Pedigree puppy pouches (€7.00 vs €9.20) but only with a Clubcard. Dunnes is cheaper on Cesar wet trays (€1.20 vs €1.55) without any card needed.
What's the cheapest dry dog food in Ireland? In our matched-SKU dataset, Bakers Dry Adult Dog Food (3kg) at €11.50 is the cheapest branded dry food, available at all three of Tesco, SuperValu and Dunnes Stores. Tesco and SuperValu require their loyalty cards to hit that price.
Are Aldi and Lidl cheaper for dog food? Aldi's Langhams/Vitakraft and Lidl's Coshida ranges are widely reported as the cheapest unit-price dog food in Ireland, but we don't yet track them in our weekly scrape. We'll update this guide as soon as that coverage lands.
Do Clubcard and Real Rewards prices mean I have to be a member? Yes. Both Tesco Clubcard and SuperValu Real Rewards are free to join, but you have to scan the card at checkout. Without it, you pay the regular shelf price, which is typically €1–€3 higher on dry food.
How often do these prices change? Promotion-driven prices (multi-buy, fixed amount off) typically rotate every 2–4 weeks. Headline shelf prices on Pedigree and Bakers dry food have been remarkably stable across our last 14 days of data.
